See Voting as an Integral Part of Who You Are

Nathaniel Stinnett, founder and executive director of the Environmental Voter Project, joins historian and author Ruth Ben-Ghiat for a conversation about voting, political power, and the work of turning environmentalists into consistent voters.

Drawing on EVP’s use of data analytics and behavioral science, Nathaniel discusses why the organization focuses on changing voting behavior rather than changing minds. He explains some of the strategies EVP uses to encourage turnout and why getting environmentalists to see voting as an integral part of who they are is key to building political power.

The conversation also explores new EVP polling showing that voters want politicians to talk more about climate change, challenging the idea that candidates should avoid the issue. Nathaniel and Ruth discuss how voting shapes who politicians pay attention to, the political debate around data centers, opportunities for the climate movement to build alliances, and the need to pursue systemic political solutions to the climate crisis.
